You wonder why Maura lies to her nursing instructor about being out of town for a week due to a death in the family. Most nursing schools have strict rules regarding attendance, especially clinical hours. It would not be acceptable to miss time for any old reason, it would need to be pretty important. I myself missed too many clinical hours one semester and had to go before a board to even have the opportunity to make up my clinical time!

This was my thought too, my nursing program had incredibly strict rules about attendance. I missed a clinical day because I was so sick I couldn’t stay out of the bathroom…I still went but they sent me home, but it was a big deal. I think Maura was struggling and needed a break, and a death in the family would have been the one thing that was an acceptable reason for her to not be there.
