15. Diane Schuler — Highway to Hell

On July 26, 2009, eight people were killed when Diane Schuler went the wrong way on the Taconic Parkway in New York. The case is remembered by the haunting words of Diane’s niece to the girl’s father–“There’s something wrong with Aunt Diane.”

  1. Hi Brett and Alice. I heard about your podcast on Missing Maura Murray and love it. About 5 yrs ago my younger brother called me from the hospital to tell me he was being treated for alcoholism. I would drive down and stay with him for 10 days every year and he never had a drop. (I don’t drink, not for any moral reasons, I just don’t like the taste). I also talked to him on the phone every other day and didn’t notice a thing. I asked him about it and he said he couldn’t wait for me to leave because he craved it so badly. He has quit cold turkey and has been dry since he was hospitalized. He was told flat out by the Dr. that he needed to stop or die. I don’t know how he did it but I’m quite proud of him. My point to all this is that he could hide it. Thanks for a great program. I’m hooked.

  2. I found the delivery of this tedious and dragging. Too much personal experience & not enough case content. Your voices And style of speaking don’t compliment each other. You sound like a big brother and his less educated sister. I couldn’t finish this.

  3. Thoroughly enjoyed your views on this case! One thought I had regarding Diane’s marijuana use….do you think it’s possible that she potentially had something edible/homemade that had a larger amount of THC than she was accustomed to and it made her paranoid?

  4. Did the guys who pulled those poor kids out of the car smell marijuana? That’s the kind of smell you just don’t miss. It’s not called skunk for nothing. If not she could have taken it orally for the tooth pain. And that mixed with alcohol could have screwed her up completely.

  5. Hey guys-Just found your podcast and when I like one, I like to start at the beginning so. One Diane, I have to agree with the other post, I think she ate an edible that was way more potent than she realized. Remember, it continues to get into your bloodstream as it digests, so you may not feel the effects for 30 minutes and it continues. That, mixed with the alcohol could definitely cause this.

Good podcast. Does seem to drag sometimes but every pod does it at some point. 😎

    Thanks!!!
